It’s time to make a list my friends, of some of my favorite non-toxic and cleaner products for kids. Because if you’re anything like me, once you start learning about food (and knowing the difference between real food and everything else), well, it’s shocking.
Once you start reading the actual ingredient labels on your food (i.e., how you know if something is or isn’t real food), you realize how much ** *tricks*** lurk in those food items that we’ve never really thought about.
And once you see it, it’s hard not to see it.
Usually, food is the first stop on this train, but after a while it’s completely normal to start looking at all the other products in your life as well. Household items, cleaning products, skin care, makeup, personal care products and if you have children be careful. It takes the mama bear instinct in all of us to the next level – like, what in the world is in the stuff our kids use?
Because children’s systems are newer and in sensitive development, it’s even more important to protect their little bodies. So today I wanted to share some of my favorite products and brands that I’ve found along the way – many of which I also use myself because #effectiveness, you know?
Many of these options are priced the same as conventional products and would be as easy to trade in over time as you can (or as your current products run out). As parents, I always see myself as the protectors of our children’s bodies – we are the gatekeepers who decide what we allow into their systems and cells and into their daily lives.
And sticking to things that are cleaner, simpler, less toxic, and more of the body’s innate wisdom of things – I think that’s better. These are very small exchanges and decisions, but over time they add to our overall toxic load.
Your little ones’ genes, immune system and the health of their cells and bodies will one day thank you:
Favorite non-toxic children’s products
This baby balm – this is our family’s version of windex (from My Big Fat Greek Wedding – anyone? anyone? lol). But for real, this balm saves us every week – whether it’s diaper rash, cuts, burns, sunburn, dry skin, or for mom’s eye cream or the tik-tok version of slugging before going to sleep (yes I’m serious, it’s the best), this product lasts forever and contains ingredients you can really trust for newborns up to any age.
Bubble bath for babies and children– Making bath time a little more fun doesn’t have to mean adding lots of chemicals to your kids’ sensitive skin. This brand works very well.
The baby kit–– including baby oil, baby bar soap and baby powder – all with ingredients so clean you could eat. And they each last forever. There’s SO much to most of these conventional products, and they’re such great options, without any downsides.
Active repair spray for cuts – a great alternative to neosporin or alcohol for those inevitable ailments. It’s not prickly, and we call it the special magic healing spray 🙂
Simple Modern Stainless Steel Water Bottles– the best water bottles I’ve found so far, which are stainless steel, BPA free, dishwasher safe and the parts are super easy to clean.
Noah hair gel/cream– this brand of natural styling balm/cream is where it’s at. Noah loves going to the hair salon (our bathroom) before school days. It’s not super long and smooth, more of a pomade style, with a light scent that isn’t overpowering for her sensitive mom. They also have a hair detanglerand one curl tamer Also.
Cleaning Spray – The Successful Market Brand Rosey is one of my favorites, with lemon. They make the house smell amazing and even work well on our marble countertops. And made with real essential oils versus the more dangerous fake scents of most conventional cleaners.
Laundry detergent – we love and use the thriving market brand, the industry staple brand (love the kit you can pour into all 7 styles of cleaning bottles) and the Fragrance Free, Clear Seventh Generation Brand. I tend to buy whatever is on sale between the three and rotate. I always choose unscented here (and if you want and crave a scent, adding a drop of essential oil is an easy, non-toxic way to do it!)
Puracy stain remover for clothes– can I say another vote for the most used children’s product in our house? ! This stuff is actually magic, there’s nothing it can’t get out of it, especially when you spray it right away. Yes, even baby rashes, pasta sauce, watermelon stains and avocado stains too. I buy this in bulk.
Puracy Carpet Stain Remover- another great addition to my collection of non-toxic cleaning supplies – BC kids, you know? !
Dr Bronners Baby Soap, Unscented– the soap we use for the bath…. and not every day. just a tiny bit every few days is all you need (babies and children’s skin can be easily rid of soap oils, so less is actually much better. We bathe them every night , but soap 1-2 times a week. Also always take a travel bottle with me whenever we travel for shower/baths and laundry a snap!
Babo baby sunscreen– with the spray bottle. I’ve been using it since June and it’s my favorite. They also have a stick as well as for fast exits.
Mineral pipette 50 sunscreen– I love this one for my kids….. but especially for me 🙂 It goes runny so it’s super easy to spread, but just a warning you need to open and close it fast!
Genexa pain reliever for infants or children (acetominaphen without the dyes and tylenol dyes for infants/children) – my friend Kate Eskuri told me about this and I totally agree. Basically, regular medicine, but without the colorants, dyes and additives of conventional kid/baby brands. And not expensive ! Such a great device to have on hand for when it’s really needed. They also have a allergy cleanser Also.
Dr Brite coconut oil fluoride-free toothpaste kids’ favorite toothpaste, without a ton of stuff in it!
Smarty Pants Multivitamin with Gummy Fiber– one of the only kids vitamin brands I’ve seen that uses methylated b vitamins = so awesome. We use them as a reward in our house (after cleaning your room) and it feels like a win on both sides.
