Kordiyaka looks set to add another trophy to his mantle.
Pavlo Kordiyaka had a spring to hold back as a professional strongman. At the beginning of April 2023, the Ukrainian athlete won his very first Europe’s Strongest Man (ESM) title. Then, if not for a controversial penalty on Third day of the strongest man in the world 2023 (WSM) a few weeks later, he could have potentially won a WSM title. With summer in full swing and a new title up for grabs at Shaw Classic 2023 (SC), Kordiyaka looks set to build on his recent momentum.
On July 17, 2023, Kordiyaka posted a video on his Instagram page where he locked a log press of 183 kilograms (403.4 pounds) for three repetitions and later completed a power snatch of 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds). According to the strongman’s post caption, the recorded workout is part of his ongoing preparation for SC 2023 on August 19-20, 2023 in Loveland, CO.
Kordiyaka’s profile may be less well known than some of his peers, such as the reigning WSM champion Mitchell Hooper, but that doesn’t make it any less competitive. If anything, after Kordiyaka knocks down former 2020 WSM champion Oleksii Novikov at ESM 2023 and held off Hooper, Novikov and former double WSM winner (2021-2022) Tom Stoltman at WSM 2023, he proved he belonged at the most elite level in the sport.
With this trio of peers arguably more established in Kordiyaka’s ambitions to become “strongest man on earth“, SC 2023 could be another release party for the contender. Trey Mitchell is the two-time defending champion of the contest.

Prior to winning ESM 2023, Kordiyaka’s career highlight was a first place finish at the 2021 Official Strongman Games (OSG). According to his profile on Strongman Archivesthe 28-year-old has participated in 15 international competitions, winning four of them, including the ESM 2023. His place in the WSM 2023 final was the first of his career.
He will now have the chance to build on those performances at SC 2023.
Breaking through against a group of star competitors is probably no easy task. Kordiyaka can rest assured that every one of his peers is likely to see him in the same intimidating, yet equally respectful way at SC 2023.
