Mitchell starts to get hot.
Trey Mitchell is the winner of the 2023 North America’s Strongest Man (NASM) award. The American competitor won during the competition which took place on July 15 and 16, 2023 in Victoriaville, Canada. It’s Mitchell’s first win of the 2023 strongman season after finishing in fourth place at the Arnold Strongman Classic 2023 (ASC), the The strongest man in the world 2023 (WSM), and the 2023 Giants Live Strongman Classic (GLSC). It is also Mitchell’s first victory since his successful defense of the title at Shaw Classic 2022 (SC). He will attempt to retain that title again in Loveland, CO in August 2023.
Alongside Mitchell on the NASM podium were American Lucas Hatton (second place) and Canadian Wesley Derwinsky (third). According to his page on Strongman Archives, Hatton has now finished second in back-to-back competitions following a runner-up finish at the 2023 Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships (AASWC). Meanwhile, with his third-place finish, Derwinsky has now finished on the podium in five of seven career strongman competitions.
NASM 2023 featured eight events over two days, which were as follows: Max log liftFingal’s Fingers and Yoke Medley, Atlas stones, truck pullWheelbarrow transport, Car Deadlift, viking press, and Motorized escalators. Twelve competitors took part in the competition.
Here is the final ranking of the roster:

To win the 2023 NASM title, Mitchell took first place in five of the eight events. Here is an overview of the athlete’s performance in each event, including their corresponding finish:
Trey Mitchell | 2023 North America’s Strongest Man Event by Event Performance
- Max Log Lift — 200 kilograms (tied for first place)
- Mixture of Fingal’s fingers and yoke — 34.38 seconds (first place)
- Atlas stones — Five in 40.33 seconds (first place)

NASM 2023 was Mitchell’s debut in the contest. In 2014, when the NASM was last held, quadruple WSM champion (2011, 2013, 2015-2016) Brian Shaw claimed victory. It’s perhaps appropriate that Mitchell spent his 30th birthday, which fell on the final day of the contest, achieving such prestigious status.
Mitchell’s name and reputation far exceeded his status as a two-time defending SC champion. However, if he can stack a hat-trick and, with it, win a new title of “The strongest man on earth” in addition to some recent performances, his billing as a superstar will be unquestionable.
