Something I can always get behind? A little spring refreshment. Nothing like taking an afternoon to clean out your closet, donate a pile of things you don’t like/wore (or don’t fit) and bring in some SPACE for a new season. .
I don’t know about you, but every time I do, it can also be such a mental reset. A chance to pause and ask yourself: what works? What is not? What’s my vibe right now… and what am I doing to want it must be?
For me, clothes are a fun little everyday way to create a *feeling* in my life. Whether it’s feeling lighter, brighter, comfortable, calm, grounded, etc. what I choose to put on my body each day can really change the way I approach the day.
And let’s be honest – mostly it’s yoga pants and layers of a comfy tank top and sweatshirt for my work-at-home mom life. But having the OPTION and dressing up a few times a week is so good for my soul.
You do not believe me ? Try it this weekend! Take an hour or two to get everything out of your hangers and dresser drawers, and be ruthless: if you don’t wear it, it doesn’t fit, or you don’t even like it that much, someone anyone else can get it. MUCH better to use it. Trust. Add it to the donation pile (bonus if you can find a local women’s and children’s shelter to drop it off at. If you’re in Seattle, I love supporting Mary’s place).
And I think these days, especially, we could all use more mental space. And some sparks of joy, color and fun. Especially as we enter spring. BYE in the winter, see you next year.
These are small, simple ways to take care of ourselves, so that we can then give all our love and energy to others.
So today, I want to share some spring style favorites and picks, so you can intentionally pick up a thing or two that your wardrobe might be missing…
My favorite spring style picks right now:
Mother’s Day Gifts
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I’m all about a thoughtful gift. If you want to give the moms in your life something special this year, here are my top ideas!
- Chatbooks is my favorite way to capture family memories in meaningful gifts that matter. I’ve created Chatbooks to give as gifts during the holidays (plus, I Finally I had all my family photos from the last 6 years printed in books) – and it was so easy. I tell you everything, I to like this application. From photos of the year to other fun custom prints, this is now my favorite business! Shop all of their perfect Mother’s Day options here!
- Directed by Mary Jewels are the creator of my daily necklaces – I love them, never take them off and always get questions about them! This company makes amazing pieces. I had a necklace made for my mother with the initials of the grandchildren, and she cherishes it. In my own jewelry collection, I have the ⅜ Initial Necklace with my children’s initials on it, the Poppy chokerand the Hera gold chain. I also love their earrings! I wear these hoops all the time, and I just ordered the large and small sets of these earrings.
- A moment of well-being is perfect for any mom, anywhere. Treat her to a massage at a local spa or surprise her with a solo night (better yet, with her best friend) at a local hotel or on Airbnb. Quiet time or quality time, both are such great gifts to give.
- Love letters or letters of appreciation: sometimes it’s the simplest things to do (that don’t cost anything) that mean the most. The more precise, the better I think 🙂
- A class or workshop about something she is passionate about (or interested in): ceramics, cooking, herbalism, plants, art, etc.
- Plan a day of things she enjoys: a walk, a hike, a trip to the farmer’s market, going out to eat, having a meal together, relaxing, etc.
From SRH Polls: I asked you all this question and got great answers (as always). Here are some other fun ideas for Mother’s Day:
- Storyworth:ok, that sounds so cool, and a few of you mentioned it. It’s a personalized book of someone’s stories, for generations to come. It’s like emailed prompts with fun questions that they answer, then they’re collected in a keepsake book. Such a beautiful gift.
- A cleaning lady – the truth. It has to be up there with one of the best gifts ever. The one who keeps on giving. If you’re local to Seattle, I love Seattle Green Earth Cleaning if you want to go the non-toxic cleaning route.
- Automotive detailing: yes, please.
- Other acts of service: the thing that she likes or appreciates or that just brings her joy (but that she might not do, create or organize for herself)
- Monogrammed or engraved jewellery, works of art, handprints, photos, etc.
- A “Mother’s Day Journal”: Instead of a card every year, just start a sweet little book with entries from kids every year. It’s darling, isn’t it?
- The other 2 most mentioned gifts (each of which, I must agree, makes my daily life pleasant, easier and simplified): the Vitamix, and a red light board (you know I’m obsessed with my light board, and I have a code for you too, just use “simply real health” at the register)
More than anything, it’s about the thought and intent behind any gift: what feel good for them?
And don’t forget to log in to Simply Real Life Podcast this week we’re tackling a hot topic for many: how to stop saying yes when you really mean no. Aka, how to make more time and space in your life for the things that really matter (instead of giving it away for the things that don’t).
