The two strong men did not leave London empty-handed.
american strongman Evan Singleton wasn’t the only big winner at the 2023 Giants Live Strongman Classic (GLSC).
In the competition held on July 8, 2023 in London, England, Australian athlete Eddie Williams broke Nicol Stone Carry’s world record with a distance of 31.66 meters. The famous stones weighed 114 kilograms (251.3 pounds) and 138 kilograms (304.2 pounds) respectively. Meanwhile, another American competitor, Trey Mitchell, set a new Viking Press World Record by completing 18 reps of the eponymous aerial tool, which weighed 150 kilograms (330.6 pounds). At the end of the competition, Mitchell and Williams finished fourth and fifth overall.
The Nicol Stone Carry was the first event of GLSC 2023, meaning Williams effectively set the tone for the competition with her world record. The athlete notably broke the distance of the former world record holder Kevin Do more than seven meters. Notably, Faires was also participating in the contest. Faires established Nicol Stone Carry’s past mark at the Giants 2022 Live World Tour Finals with a range of 24.61 meters.
Each of Williams, Faires, Singleton and Mitchell Hooper eclipsed the previous record, but it was Williams who comfortably clinched the longest distance.
Since the castle stones (or Atlas stones) are a regular at strongman events, the Viking Press served as the penultimate culminating event of the 2023 GLSC. A battle in which Mitchell shone with his world record. Mitchell’s record of 18 reps surpasses Paul Smith, who blocked 13 reps at Giants Live Britain’s Strongest Man (GLBSM) 2023 for the final number. Once again, several 2023 GLSC strongmen surpassed the previous Viking Press record, but Mitchell came out on top in the air pressing endurance showcase.
Mitchell will likely move forward by diving back into his training for the Shaw Classic 2023 (SC) in August. The athlete is the two-time defending champion and could be the contestant stopping the legendary Brian Shaw from winning his latest professional strongman contest. On the other hand, Williams is a former two-time Australian Strongest Man (ASM) champion (2017-18) and should be someone to watch after securing his first international top five since 2019.
