Travel is always worth it, in my book. Fingers in the nose.
(And yes, with children too. Can it be funny? Mmm-hmm. Can it be a little more logistical to figure out and plan? Double-yes. But seeing the joy in their eyes then that they have new experiences and the places are like nothing else. It’s a bit like magic, for me).
And whether you’re traveling alone, with friends, family, or kids – AND want to be health conscious at the same time (and make sure you’re eating whole foods, staying hydrated, sleeping well, and making sure you’re just as practical as possible) – let me tell you a little secret: Yes, it takes a little EXTRA intention in how you plan, pack and prepare.
To make me (and all of us) feel like we had what we needed to function, take care of ourselves and feel good throughout our journey. Because what good is vacation if you come home more tired or exhausted than when you left? I’ve talked a lot about mentality (and my favorite tips for traveling and staying on your game) in this week podcast episodeand I wanted to create a list of my favorite things that make that happen.
Aka, my travel essentials that I have found to be game changers in making healthy travel of all kinds, easy.
So today, I’m sharing the non-negotiables on my packing list that promote skin, sleep, gut, and whole-body health, and also make life easier while traveling and entertain kids on the go. Aka, my family’s travel essentials.
Before diving in, don’t miss these helpful travel articles:
Now on to my must-haves for an easy, intentional, and healthy trip!
Adult Travel Favorites:
- 1. This Padded Sleep Eye Mask– SO comfortable and great for blocking out extra light (i.e. a necessity for good sleep in hotels/airbnbs). It takes a few weeks to crack this one, but it’s amazing how much better you can sleep anywhere in the world with this. You never know the situation of the curtain/blind and that guarantees wherever you are = a good sleep!
- 2. Ear plugs“I swear by these. And yes, I can still hear my children if they need me! They simply block out ambient noise outside if you’re traveling in a noisy area and dampen other noises. (If your partner snores, trust me, you need it!)
- 3. Travel size shower gel– that’s what we use at home too, but I love that they come in a travel size!
- 4. Lemon Coconut Hand Sanitizer Spray– a must have in every carry on bag – love that this one is made with cleaner ingredients
- 5. Hanging toiletry bag– it’s a GAME CHANGER for counter space when traveling! You can hang all your toiletries on a towel rack for easy access without cluttering the whole bathroom
- 6. Hand frother– yes, I’m traveling with one of these and it might get me more money, but it’s so convenient. Ideal for mixing matcha or electrolyte powder into your water!
- 7. Travel Matcha Packets— so good for traveling!
- 8. Drops of chlorophyll– my favorite way to start the day, even when traveling – chlorophyll is so good for immune function, detoxification, energy and even helps fight bad breath. No matter where I am in the world, these come with me. It’s the simplest thing: 10-15 drops in a tall glass of water in the morning, but the way it sets up my day feeling energized and hydrated, it’s never worth going without. I make better decisions throughout the day when I start this way.
- 9. PP Cleansing Oil– by doing this I usually don’t even need to pack an extra moisturizer or serum, it cleans up my makeup and leaves my skin glowing and hydrated. (Use code SIMPLYREALHEALTH to save 10%!)
- 10. PP Baby Balm– don’t let the name fool you, it’s a balm for everything: sunburn, diaper rash, cuts, scrapes and the best eye cream ever. Really. I never leave home without it! (Use code SIMPLYREALHEALTH to save 10%!)
- 11. PP deodorant– well it works. Everytime. And I never leave the house without it. (Use code SIMPLYREALHEALTH to save 10%!)
- 12. These CBD drops (and gummies)— because traveling is sometimes unpredictable: new places to sleep, new routines, etc. I love doing ¼ dropper the first night, especially after a busy day of travel. And it’s so great to have on hand to help your nervous system calm down and regulate itself better, with all the novelty in your routines. Use code “simplyrealhealth” to get 15% off.)
- 13. This immune support throat spray, liposomal vitamin C sachets and cough syrups: the first two for prevention, and the second I always pack just in case someone in the family needs it. Code “simplyrealhealth” at checkout will save you 15%!
- 14. Activated Charcoal Capsules: I always travel with it, just in case. If you eat a meal and your stomach feels bad, skipping 2 can be a natural way to avoid food poisoning, stomach bugs, etc.
