Here’s what to expect in West Virginia in December.
The directory Official Strongman Games (OSG) presents an intriguing opportunity for elite and promising strong men and strong women to show off. This year’s contest taking place December 1-3, 2023 in Charleston, West Virginia, is expected to be no different.
On June 23, 2023, OSG organizers revealed the schedule and a list of six events for OSG 2023 on the contest’s Instagram profile. As of this writing, the full contest roster has not been revealed. Anyone who officially registers before early December should be prepared for a list of tough obstacles.
Below is the full official schedule and event details for OSG 2023:
Day 1 | Friday, December 1, 2023
The first day of the contest weekend will open with two events focusing on upper body strength and endurance.
Stand or Submit Press Medley
Athletes will be responsible for overhead dry cleaning four tools – one dumbbell with wagon wheels, a circus dumbbell, a curved yoke and a block – in the shortest possible time. They will have a time limit of 60 seconds. At the time of this writing, the precise weights of the tools have not been designated. They will be different for each participating weight category.
Gate Stix and Stone
The creative name aside, taken from the manufacturing company supplying the competition gear, it’s an appropriate label for an event that will require athletes to perform two loaded transport variations. First, athletes must carry a wooden frame for 15.25 meters (50 feet) and then bring a set of stones back the same distance as quickly as possible. Again, they will have a time limit of 60 seconds.
Day 2 | Saturday, December 2, 2023
Saturday at OSG 2023 “pulls” the maximum before falling back on endurance.
Deadlift ladder
Any seasoned strongman or strongwoman competitor should probably be well prepared for the rigors of a Deadlift Ladder. Although the weight of each of the five dumbbells has not yet been determined, they will again only have 60 seconds to work their way through the increasingly heavy range.
GORUCK Survival Challenge
In this event, competitors will lift a heavy medicine ball and other yet undisclosed GORUCK tools. They will be adorned with backpacks weighing up to 45.4 kilograms (100 pounds) throughout. Depending on the weight category, the completion time will vary from 60 to 90 seconds.
Day 3 | Sunday, December 3, 2023
Only the top 10 competitors will advance to the final day of OSG 2023. The contest will end with a familiar refrain for anyone who follows the strongman and strongwoman closely.
Throwing sandbags
For all intents and purposes, the Sandbag Toss will be challenging, but it’s potentially more of an appetizer for the main concluding course. As part of this, athletes will aim to throw six increasingly heavy sandbags over a 4.6-meter (15-foot) bar for men and a four-meter (13-foot) bar for women. As usual, they will have 60 seconds to land as many throws as possible.
Atlas stone
The famous Atlas Stones – a match finisher in countless strongman and strongwoman competitions – will be the decisive final score at OSG 2023. The task will be simple: lift six increasingly heavy Atlas Stones onto their flats. -respective forms. Each weight class for men and women will have a different weight stone group corresponding to their expected strength. For context, the heaviest stone of the event will be the sixth and final stone in the open men’s weight division, weighing in at 193 kilograms (425 pounds).
OSG is not necessarily in line with competitions like the annual The strongest man in the world (WSM) in terms of prestige. That said, as evidenced by this list of events, there is still a notable notch in the belt for competitors lucky enough to win it.
